From HTML / Static (No Database) to WordPress / Database
When Land and Sea Collection came to us, they were looking for help patching up their existing HTML website. However, rather than put a band-aid on a gushing wound, we suggested that it was time for them to take the leap into the future and convert their website to a modern WordPress-powered site.
In the world of web design and development, it is important to stay up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies. This can be especially true for older websites, where the underlying code may be outdated and difficult to maintain. For businesses and organizations that have an existing website built in HTML, converting it to a modern database-driven website powered by WordPress is an excellent way to ensure that their website remains up-to-date and modern. In this case study, we will discuss the process of converting an existing HTML website to a WordPress-powered site.
Maintaining the URL structure which had been in place since 1999 was the most important part of the process. After ensuring this, we were able to import the thousands of individual pages to WordPress with the help of a HTML importer plugin. This plugin enabled us to quickly and easily transfer the pages without their design elements. The ability to modify and create different themes to fit the look and feel of each page is a key element of web design. With WordPress’s content management system, we are now able to make multiple themes to fit the design of each page.
Importing large amounts of content, such as images, for the website was an incredibly time-consuming process. The task was daunting, however, with the proper strategy and preparation, we were able to complete it successfully.
After having finished the mapping of images to their respective pages and the final designs, our focus shifted to creating a new home page and navigation system. Before this, links had to be manually created on each individual page. With the conversion to WordPress, however, we were able to implement a structure that spanned across the entire website and made internal linking much easier.
